Making Your Own Reading Game
Friday, January 27th, 2012
Even though most of us know the huge benefits that a reading games provides for our children, we still shy away from using reading games for kids to teach them valuable lessons? Why is that so? Is it that we are not really convinced about these great resources but simply agree with other people when they talk about their immense value? Most parents say that the answer to this question is no. Then perhaps we feel that reading a story online is the same as more expensive reading games and thus they are a waste of money? The answer to this question turned out to be no too. So, you know the real reason why parents were not opting for reading games? Well, the real answer turned out to be that they were too costly and a lot of parents found them unaffordable!
Since I too was concerned about blowing my monthly house budget if I bought too many reading games for my kids, I starting thinking of some way to reap the benefits of a reading game without having to shell out the big bucks. And then suddenly when I was browsing for a good story online one day, a bright idea hit me! I happened to read something on the internet (I don’t remember now what I had read then), which led me to the idea of making my own reading game. How come I hadn’t thought of that before? I am quite a hands-on parent and making new things comes quite easily to me, which is why I was more surprised that I hadn’t thought of it before. But now that the idea had come to me, I could not wait to get home from work and get started on my project right away!
As soon as I reached home, this is what I did. I decided to make an alphabet reading game for my daughter because she was just a toddler and learning the letters of the alphabet was one skill that she needed to start learning. Also, I had been told that reading helps in baby brain development so that was all the more reason for me to get started quickly. I realized that I had some pudding in the fridge that was not apt for eating. So, I took the pudding and added some red food color to it as red was my daughter’s favorite color. Then, I simply put the pudding in a tray and put my finger into the pudding and traced out the letter A. My daughter was so excited to play with the pudding that she needed no second invitation to follow me. She began to imitate me and also traced out the letter A. I got her to do all the letters in turn and was so grateful for such a simple-to-make reading game!

Looking for the Right Tutor for You
Saturday, November 26th, 2011
Finding the right tutor can be a frustrating undertaking if you do not know what qualities to look for in an individual. You’ll find a lot of young, knowledgeable college students looking to make a buck who offer their services as tutors for high school students. You can find a few good ones in a group like this but be wary of a lax tutor! Personally, I like to look for retired professors or teachers – the men and women with the time on their hands. You can be sure that they will offer reasonable prices while encouraging you to learn the subject they offer. Just look around any campus and you’ll no doubt find business cards or fliers with offers from tutors and don’t forget to check online, either! I know that I’ve had a lot of help in making the grade due to tutors and I’ll always recommend a richmond tutor myself!
